Rivet Nut
The Rivet Nut is a round or hexagonal body, internally threaded blind fastener. It provides a blind installation into sheet metal, plastic, fiberglass and tubular materials. Rivet Nuts perform as a blind rivet to bind two or more materials together and as a nut for attaching a mating part with a screw into its internal threads.
Rivet Nuts are made in aluminum, steel and stainless steel. Head style offerings include flat, countersunk and thin head designs. The countersunk head provides a smooth surface after installation. The typical Rivet Nut has an open end. A closed end version is also available for applications that require a tight seal such as in a fuel tank. Keyed, hexagonal or ribbed designs provide enhanced torque resistance. Thin wall versions are less costly but less robust. The slotted shank Rivet Nut has a longer, slotted shaft that provides a wide cloverleaf footprint when upset and is used for installations in plastic and fiberglass materials.
Installation can be performed with a variety of power tools, hand operated tools and wrench tools.
Rivet Nut is a generic term for this type of fastener. Sherex and Atlas manufacturer Rivet Nuts. Liberty Engineering is an authorized distributor for both Sherex and Atlas
